Artist Profiles: Jo Merecki

Growing up in Kentucky in a family of quilters, Jo inherited the appreciation and love of fabrics and the fine art of quilting at an early age. This love has continued through the years. In 1982 she opened a quilt shop to share this ove with those who were interested in learning to quilt. She had found that almost an entire generation has missed learning this form of art.

For the past 16 years she has taught, not only in her own shop, but in local school adult education programs and the local guilds. She hosted a quilting show for local cable television and gives seminars in public library programs and in the nationwide Borders Bookstore and Music chain.

Jo takes her students from the very basics to advanced techniques. She incorporates personal methods that have been perfected over the years. These methods not only save time and frustration. but make it easy to produce professional and satisfactory results. Many class techniques are on video to share these methods with those who cannot attend her classes.
